Caidi Mammas Vanderporten

Attorney at Law

Caidi graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a major in legal studies and Spanish in 2009. While at Wisconsin, Caidi studied abroad in Seville, Spain and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Upon graduation, Caidi matriculated to Chicago-Kent College of Law where she volunteered in the Family Law and Criminal Defense clinics. During law school, Caidi had the opportunity to work for Circuit Court of Cook County Judge Clare McWilliams in the Law-Jury Division.

Caidi observed pretrial settlement negotiations, hearings, and trials, which experience was invaluable. Caidi became licensed as a 711 law student, enabling her to litigate in the courtroom while working as a law clerk at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. She worked in the Narcotics Prosecutions Bureau, the Special Prosecutions Felony Trial Division, and the Domestic Violence Division litigating bench trials and motions, preliminary and bond hearings, and researching Fourth Amendment Search and Seizure issues.

Caidi has received her Certificate in Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution, allowing her to mediate cases at the Daley Center and at the Chicago Center for Conflict Resolution.

Upon graduation from Chicago-Kent College of Law, Caidi joined the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, starting in the Child Support Enforcement Division. In that first assignment, Caidi represented the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services on behalf of men, women and children seeking child support and medical insurance. She drafted and argued numerous civil pleadings and motions in the area of family law, specifically dealing with child support and medical support. Caidi then was assigned to the Juvenile Justice Bureau’s Child Protection Division, tirelessly advocating for abused, neglected, and dependent children embroiled in the DCFS system. She advocated on behalf of child wards of the court to ensure they would live in a safe, clean, loving home and to remove them from harmful situations. In certain cases she argued for children to be adopted by the foster families with who they had been placed and raised. Following the Child Protection Division, Caidi was promoted to the Juvenile Justice Bureau’s Delinquency Division, prosecuting juvenile offenders for misdemeanor and felony crimes. Caidi was able to try complicated and serious felony cases during this assignment, including attempt murder, aggravated vehicular hijackings, and armed robberies. Caidi litigated her first felony jury case to verdict for a residential burglary. Following her assignment in the Juvenile Justice Bureau, Caidi was assigned to the Felony Review Division. During this unique assignment, she had the responsibility of determining whether felony charges were appropriate in serious cases and whether the facts could meet the legal burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt once the case progressed through the court system to trial. During this assignment Caidi responded at all hours to crime scenes, hospitals, victims’ homes, and detective divisions in order to interview victims, witnesses, and suspects that had been taken into custody. She took handwritten confessions and videotape statements from all individuals involved to determine what felony charges could be sought.

Caidi was recently selected for inclusion in the 2020 Illinois Super Lawyers lists, and was named to the Illinois Rising Stars list. Super Lawyers selects no more than 2.5% of attorneys in Illinois under the age of 40 or in practice for 10 years or less to be included in the Rising Stars list.
